Tortilla Bowls

These are so yummy and so easy. If you don't want to do bowls, just cut the tortillas into quarters and make plain chips. Give it a try. Store bought chips are great - but once you try these you'll realize how easy it is to rock out restaurant style chips - and there's nothing like them.

1 package small corn tortillas
3-4 cups Crisco, enough to fill a cast iron skillet to a depth of 2-3 inches
kosher salt

Heat oil in a cast iron skillet (or deep fryer if you have one) to 350F. Line the bowl of a small wire strainer with a tortilla, tucking and folding until it forms a bowl. Set strainer containing tortilla into hot oil, using a wooden spoon to hold the middle down to form a bowl. After a minute or two, the bowl will set, and you can flip it out and fry the 'upside' down side. Deep fry until golden. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels, sprinkling immediately with kosher salt.
If you're just making chips, cut your tortillas into triangles and fry them up about 7-8 at a time, flipping to turn both sides golden.
